Description:
The French and European defense sectors are undergoing profound transformations, driven by rapid technological advancements, the rise of autonomous systems, and increasingly complex operational environments. Modern military operations require the seamless coordination of land, naval, air, space, and cyber systems across national borders, demanding interoperability and integration among allied capabilities.
This paradigm of interconnected systems—known as a System of Systems (SoS)—creates new operational advantages but also introduces major engineering challenges. To address these, a shift from traditional document-based methods to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is essential. Leveraging the OMG UAF enterprise architecture framework, MBSE enables integrated views, enhances decision-making, and fosters collaboration among industry, academia, and institutions.
The 2023 Chair Architecture des Systèmes Complexes aims to anticipate technological disruptions and advance standardization in complex systems engineering. To experiment and disseminate these practices, the ASPIS student challenge at Institut Polytechnique de Paris—shaped by lessons from the Ukraine conflict—demonstrates a System of Systems approach designed to strengthen national sovereignty and allied support.
This presentation shares key insights from the collaborative work of DGA, Dassault Systèmes, KNDS, Naval Group, and IP Paris.
